Overview of the Everest Base Camp Trek

First of all, the 15 days trek begins with the arrival in Kathmandu. The second day constitutes flying from Kathmandu to Lukla. Lukla is technically the actual starting point of Everest Base Camp Trek group travel in Nepal. Phakding is next in line after starting from Lukla. You reach Namche after several hours of walking from Phakding. A separate day is allocated for elevation acclimatization at Namche Bazaar. It certainly gives plenty of opportunities to explore the busy town.

Namche gives way to slowly climbing up to Tengboche at 3867 meters. Tengboche is famous for the Khumbu region’s largest gompa, Tengboche Monastery. Tengboche has a panoramic view of the Tawache, Lhotse, and Thamserku. 

Likewise, the acclimatization process is also done at Tengboche. The EBC route moves along Dingboche. You gradually ascent to rougher terrains as you enter the Lobuche region. Similarly, Gorakshep is followed by Lobuche.   

On the 10th day, the route hikes up to Kalapatthar. Therefore, The ascent of Kala Patthar begins at Gorakshep (5,164 m), the original base camp for Mt. Everest. Kalapatthar stands at about 5500 meters. The uniqueness of its structure gives fabulous gateways to experience lovely scenes. The views of Everest, Nuptse, and Changtse are spectacular from Kala Patthar. Finally, the descent starts from Pheriche and ends up at Namche again.

What to Expect in Everest Base Camp Trek

When trekking please don’t hesitate to ask our local guides while you’re travelling regarding the amazing history and culture of Nepal. Moreover, if you have any questions we are always happy to answer!
We trek per day between 4 to 8 hours depending on the walk and after that, we can always tailor the date to you and your needs. Most importantly trekking with Happyland Treks we must try to drink 3-4 liters of water per day because water is known to help when combating mountain altitude sickness.    

During the trek almost every village you will have access to boiled purified drinking water. When trekking you will go through terrain that can be flat, downhill uphill, and at points with lots of stairs.

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival in Kathmandu transfer to hotel preparation for trekking and overnight in Kathmandu. (1400m)

Day 2 Kathmandu to Lukla

Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m) by flight 50 minute, breakfast in Lukla after breakfast trek to Phakding (2610m) approximately 3:30 hrs.

Day 3Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Trek Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m) approximately 6-7 hrs.

Day 4Acclimatization day

Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar: rest, chilling, exploration and enjoying the view.

Day 5Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Trek Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3868m) approximately 5:30 hrs.

Day 6Tengboche to Dingboche

Trek Tengboche to Dingboche (4410m) approximately 6-7 hrs.

Early morning hike up to Kalapathar (5550m) to see sunrise view and mountain range include Mt Everest. and back to Gorakshep breakfast and trek to Pheriche (4240m) approximately 6-7 hrs.

Day 11Pheriche to Tengboche

Trek Pheriche to Tengboche (3868m) approximately 4-5 hrs.

Day 12Tengboche to Namche Bazaar

Trek Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3440m) approximately 5:00 hrs.

Day 13Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Trek Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2840m) approximately 7-8 hrs.

Day 14 flight back to Kathmandu

Morning flight back to Kathmandu (1400m) from Lukla. and overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 15Departure to international airport

Departure to international airport or if you have few days extra in Kathmandu you can chill, do shopping and sightseeing, etc.

We stay at the Tea house but Tea house trek basically means small hotel with cozy room and are  established along the trekking route that provide room and food. Most of this established family owned and home cooked meals are serve as well as different type of food European and western food Therefore, it’s bit of different but it’s good.

Mountain Sickness and Prevention in Everest Base Camp Trek

For instance, Mountain Altitude Sickness can affect anyone above 3000 meters . In other words Altitude Sickness affects people regardless of sex, age and fitness so if you are showing signs of mountain altitude sickness your safety is our first priority and we will facilitate you getting down as fast as possible.[showmore more=More less=Less] In addition , We suggest prior to trekking to ensure you are in good health and have consulted with your GP. Therefore , it is recommended prior to departing walking training is done so you have the most enjoyable time whilst trekking and Please don’t hesitate ask more.

Acute Mountain Sickness in Everest Base Camp Trek

Many people suffer from mild symptoms of AMS (ACCUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS) throughout Everest Base Camp Trek
In other words, a light headache, loss of appetite and disturbed sleep may occur when suffering from AMS. Most Importantly if you experience any of these symptoms do not continue ascend. Instead, stay where you are or go down to acclimatize.

Hace – High Altitude Cerebral Edema (swelling of the brain)
Hape – High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (fluids in the lungs)

Symptoms included 

Meanwhile Persistent severe headache, difficulty breathing, confused thinking, loss of appetite, rapid breathing or breathlessness at rest, vomiting, coughing up pink, brown or white sputum, sound of liquid in the lungs, blueness of face and lips, severe lethargy (not wanting to do anything), persistent bubbling cough, or persistent increased heart rate (110 per minute) are some symptoms
Prevention:- Drink plenty of water (not alcoholic beverage) and eat fruit – especially in the high mountains and when crossing high pass.
