The eastern Himalayan ranges of Nepal are border to the kingdom of Tibet and accommodate some of the world’s tallest Himalayas including Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m). Kanchenjunga is the second tallest in Nepal and the third tallest mountain in the world. The Helicopter Tour to Kanchenjunga starts from Kathmandu. We head north east and slowly leave behind lush hills to arrive at the snowy and rugged base camp of Kanchenjunga. Referred to as “Kang- chen- dzonga” in the Tibetan language which translates to five treasures of the great snow. It is a belief that the gods of prosperity dwell in the vicinity of the Kanchenjunga Himalayas.

At the heart of the mesmerizing Arun Valley where vibrant rhododendron colors the entire valley the beauty of the Himalayas rarely go unnoticed. The impact of Buddhism is well evident within the region through the sea of prayer flags, Mani stones, and chortens at regular intervals throughout the way. The trails that lead to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp are known for being strenuous in nature. Brief Itinerary:

Our Himalayan adventure begins with a lovely flight to the hamlet of Suketar taking in the beautifulviews of Hilly Nepal. Refueling at Suketar, we once again head up in the air making our way to the snowy Himalayas. As the lush green valleys are now covered by the snowy Himalayan summits, we find ourselves in the company of the KanchenjungaHimalayas.Their beauty evident from the get go.We land atPangpema also referred to as the Northern Base Camp of Kanchenjunga (8,586m).

Here, we can enjoy a 360-degree Himalayan panoramic view of Kanchenjunga Main (8586m) Yalung Kang (8505m), Kanchenjunga Central (8482m), Kanchenjunga South (8494m), and Kanbachen (7903m) with Kanchenjunga Glacier flowing below. We will take ample time to explore the surroundings before we once again take to the air heading back to Suketar. Lunching at Suketar, we once again head back to Kathmandu ending our adventure.

Weather of Kanchenjunga:

The climate and weather conditions throughout the Himalayas are unpredictable to a large extent. While assumptions about the weather can be made on a daily basis, it can change at any point. The months of March to May and September to November are  ideal for journeying into the region. Spring is the best for the Himalayan journey with not only clear views but also the stunning view of the lush green forests colored by wild flowers in full bloom. Winter is  not suitable in higher altitudes due to huge blankets of snow and low visibility.

 

Clothing:

Himalayas are always cold so make sure you have:

  • Comfortable down jacket
  • Comfortable pair of trekking clothes and thermal wears on at all times
  • Hiking boots and sun glasses
  • Comfortable pair of woolen gloves, scarves, caps and socks on at all times
  • Doctor-prescribed medicationsin cases of High altitude sickness
  • Make sure to carry an additional bag carrying extra layer of clothing just in case.
